As the 1950s arrives the horror comic was gaining ascendency over other genres. Superheros and adventures, while not completely disappearing, were losing ground. Harvey Comics wanted to increase their horror presence, but since mailing permits were expensive, it simply made sense to change the public title of an existing book. So, over the course of a few issues Black Cat Comics became Black Cat Mystery Comics. The character Black Cat stuck around for an issue or two, hosting the mystery tales, and a couple of covers, but then the classic horror comic took over and the transition was complete. Within a few issues BLACK CAT MYSTERY was producing the type of story for which the pre-Code era became known. Full of exciting stories and amazing artwork, BLACK CAT MYSTERY gave us three years of chilling gems before finishing off with short stints as BLACK CAT WESTERN and BLACK CAT MYSTIC.

This book contains all the comic stories from BLACK CAT MYSTERY #43-48, and features incredible work by Bob Powell, Warren Kremer, Jack Sparling, Lee Elias and other greats. During this stretch, the series truly hit its stride with some amazing work!
